MATTHEW HOMMEL

ACTOR  |  SINGER  |  DANCER  |  GOOFBALL
Hi there! Thanks for stopping by! I am an actor, singer, sometime dancer, and professional goofball based in Chicago, IL.

Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, I graduated from Kent State University (summa cum laude) with my BFA in Musical Theatre. Since then, I have been seen on regional theatre stages, joined the casts of multiple world premiere regional productions, toured the USA and Canada, and performed in major theme park destinations on the east coast like Legoland and Hersheypark. Previous work includes several nominated productions for BroadwayWorld and Joseph Jefferson Awards.

I currently live in Chicago, surrounded by a world class theatre community, but love to work and explore away from the city! I am proudly represented by DDO Artists Agency.

Offstage, catch me picking up bugs, blasting eclectic orchestral playlists, hooked on a YA fantasy novel, running D&D sessions for anyone who'll let me, and showing my cat all of the tall spots around our apartment she's too small to see for herself.

"[Matthew Hommel] is destined for national attention... This brilliant young performer... gives a vocally thrilling and emotionally searing rendition of... 'Molasses to Rum...' It was quite simply the best performance of this very demanding, tour de force song I've ever heard."
Jeffery Lyle Segal, Times Square Chronicles

THE MERMAIDS | TIMBER LAKE PLAYHOUSE

Matthew played the awkward, romantic, and mollusk-obsessed Bryan in The Mermaids at Timber Lake Playhouse. This world premiere, dark comedy musical about amateur mermaids trying to "go pro" was written by award-winning writer/composer Billy Recce (Fowl Play, A Musical About Star Wars, Singfeld) and directed by Tommy Ranieri. The Mermaids was presented as the second annual production of the Andy Bro New Works Commission at TLP.

1776 | MAINE STATE MUSIC THEATRE

Matthew played Edward Rutledge of South Carolina in MSMT's 1776. The production celebrated the United States' 250th anniversary, running across the very same dates portrayed in the classic musical.

His performance of the song "Molasses to Rum" earned several enthusiastic shout-outs in local theatre reviews, and the production, directed by Amber Mak, played to standing ovations and often sold-out crowds in its 600 seat Pickard Theater.
